It serves as the only non-federally funded comprehensive source of newborn screening information. Its director is currently affiliated with the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UTHSCSA) in an adjunct capacity. The NNSGRC was originally founded under a cooperative agreement with the US Health Resources and Services Administration in 1999, but became an independent project January 1, 2013. Originally created as a federal focal point for national newborn screening and genetics activities in the US, the NNSGRC is dedicated to providing accurate and timely newborn screening resource information both nationally and globally.
